The Little Guy is a creative collaboration between David Messer, David Duloy and Robert Scott. Musical projects are devised following thematic rules (e.g. "repeat an arpeggio but randomly change the timing", "lyrics can only be something you've dreamt", "vocals must be found or computer-generated"). Eschewing live performance, we create animated or cinematographic presentations of our music.
The Little Guy started as a duo, with Messer and Scott releasing Images of Beauty, Images of Pain in 1998. Duloy then joined the group for the release The Little Guy Dreams (2001), followed by TV Poems, putting to music the poetry of Chris Mikul (2003), This is Not a Picture (2011) and The Way It is Forever (2024). In 2004, installation artist Richard Grayson commissioned us (under the pseudonym The Midnight Amblers) to perform Handel's Messiah as country/bluegrass.
Our latest releases can be found on Spotify, but here is a release from 2001,
The Little Guy Dreams, remastered in 2024 and available on Soundcloud.
